Lawbringer Chestguard and Pauldrons of the Argent Sentinel are one of those combinations that should work but that I’ve always struggled to make happen. See, the problem is Lawbringer Chestguard. Back in the bad old days of Vanilla, Blizzard paired that delicate, almost ethereal white-gold chestplate with a pair of lumpy, unflattering legplates and the most hilarious banana pauldrons you’ve ever seen. No surprise there — questionable tier designs are one of the reasons this website exists — but unlike some of the more classic colour combinations that seem to resurface expansion after expansion Blizzard hasn’t gone back to white-gold plate in any meaningful way.
Oh, there’s been white, occasionally. And gold. But they’re noticeably different shades and, frankly, and it’s made giving Lawbringer Chestguard a second life more difficult than it needs to be.
This is just an aside, but I find the lack of white-gold gear in Paladin tier sets a missed opportunity, because the Lawbringer was possibly the most Paladin set ever designed. Between their white-gold spell icons, their white and gold spell effects, and the fact that the word “Light” has been awkwardly shoe-horned into almost everything they do, if you ask what a Paladin’s favourite colour is, they’d say, “… uh, what colour is light?” because that’s all they know.
It’s like expecting a feral druid to understand life beyond a sea of virtually identical bear claw icons.
Paladins are, at their essence, white and gold light dispensers who run on righteous fury and divine protection and they should be allowed to dress as such.
Lacking appropriate legplates, I went with a sort of burgundy alternative instead. The set was also designed to highlight the Protective Barricade of the Light (haha), which I realize the initial screenshot didn’t highlight well. So here you go.
